The set used for the show is 'Colonial Street' on the Universal Studios Hollywood backlot in L.A. This photograph was taken on April 13, 2009 on the Studio Tour.

UPDATED: After countless visits to Universal Studios Hollywood I finally managed to drive up Wisteria Lane on the backlot Studio Tour when Desperate Housewives wasn't filming.

I have found it easier to identify with the characters who verge upon hysteria, who were frightened of life, who were desperate to reach out to another person. But these seemingly fragile people are the strong people really. See the link below for more info.
