HMS Endeavour filming model from Pirates of the Caribbean on display...

After several weeks of movie costumes in the run up to Halloween I thought it was about time that we featured something different for a change of pace. So what about this special effects filming model of the HMS Endeavour ship from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and At World's End.

This spectacular scale model used in the 2006 and 2007 Disney sequels was photographed on display at the Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives exhibition taking place at The Reagan Library on July 17, 2012.

This model galleon was presented beside original costumes featured in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, plus a filming model of the Black Pearl miniature ship which I'd spied previously at Disney's D23 Expo in Anaheim in August 2011.

Hot on the heels of ParaNorman comes another spooky stop-motion animated tale just in time for Halloween, Frankenweenie. This time it's courtesy of the unique vision of Tim Burton and those clever folks at Disney.

This fantastic exhibit of original production maquettes, concept artwork and puppets featured in the movie, which is a remake of Tim Burton's 1984 short of the same name, were photographed on display at ArcLight Sherman Oaks cinema on September 27, 2012.

In an homage and parody of the classic horror movie featuring Frankenstein's monster, Frankenweenie is the tale of a boy who brings his dog 'Sparky' back to life with science after his pet is killed by a car.

Here's 10-year old 'Victor Frankenstein' and his faithful re-animated bull terrier, plus his mega-competitive classmate nemesis 'Toshiaki'.

The fat boy is called 'Bob', who's described as a momma's boy and the brawn to Toshiaki's brains.

As always I'm in awe of the work and detail that goes into creating these animation puppets and bringing them to life on the big screen.

In the movie the black poodle 'Persephone' is attracted to Sparky and appears to be designed as a tribute to the Bride of Frankenstein. She is the pet of another character, 'Elsa Van Helsing'.

Meanwhile this were-rat monster seems to be a creation of another classmate of Victor's, the misfit 'Edgar "E" Gore'.

Costumes and models from Disney's Babes in Toyland...

Odd I know to be celebrating Christmas in August, but these classic costumes from the 1961 Disney festive musical Babes in Toyland were photographed recently on display at the Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives.

This was the second movie version based on Victor Berbert's popular 1903 operetta (the first by Laurel & Hardy in 1934), but the first film to be produced in Technicolor.

These festive outfits worn by the fiancés 'Tom Piper' and 'Mary Contrary' in the movie, were designed by Bill Thomas.

Also on display alongside the costumes were these original toy models used in the making of the family Disney movie, which were photographed at The Reagan Library in Simi Valley on July 17, 2012.

Nautilus filming model from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea...

Amongst all the Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives at The Reagan Library on July 17, 2012 was this wonderful filming model of 'Captain Nemo's' infamous 'Nautilus' submarine from Disney's 1954 movie adaptation of Jules Verne's literary classic 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

Being a self-professed sci-fi geek I was immediately drawn to this cool looking vessel. The detail on the model was pretty amazing and shows you the artistry that went in to special effects back in the day before today's over reliance on computer-generated imagery.
